Calvin Dale "Yogi"  Southern
Calvin Dale “Yogi” Southern, 73, of Bloomington passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born, November 18, 1943 in Monroe County, he was the son of the late Rolla and Wilma (McGlothlin) Southern.
Calvin was a Maintenance Mechanic at RCA for 36 years and a Custodian at Indiana University for 10 years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who enjoyed deer hunting, mushroom hunting, and watching IU basketball, NASCAR, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and the birds outside.
Calvin also enjoyed playing cards with his family and mowing the lawn. He loved talking and spending time with his family and his RCA and IU friends. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Alverta (Rogers) Southern, son, Kevin Southern (Lora), daughter, Kim Southern-Koontz (Mike), granddaughters, Christina Armes (David), Kierstin Southern (Isaac), and Marlissa Southern, grandson, Dakota Koontz, great-granddaughters, Alyssa Anthony, and Aaliyah Armes, brothers, Delbert Southern (Merle), Wyatt Southern (Lisa), Kenneth Southern (Dee), and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa “Missy” Southern, brothers, Wendall, and Willis Sr., and one sister, Lavonna Oliver (Bonnie).
Visitation will be 4-8pm Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington.
Funeral services will be 1:30pm Thursday at The Funeral Chapel with Pastor Denver Craft officiating. Burial will follow at Allen’s Creek Cemetery.
The family would like to give a “big thank you” to Nancy and Morgan Southern.
“Daddy and Papaw, you will always be loved and never forgotten, fly high with Missy.”
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
