Joseph Bernard Courtney, 69, of Bloomington passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born, March 9, 1949 in Boston Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Bernard and Louise (Alvis) Courtney.
Joe graduated from Ridgewood High School in New Jersey, and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University.
He remained in Bloomington and established himself as a home builder, Courtney Custom Homes for 35 years before retiring.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Sbarounis and their daughter, Ashton Courtney; four children from his previous marriage, Caroline Courtney, David Courtney, Emily Courtney and Bobby Courtney, three siblings, Kevin Courtney (Cheryl), Dorothy Pace (Jamie), and Paul A. Courtney.
The family will receive friends 4-5:30pm Friday, October 19, 2018 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington.
A Celebration of Life will begin at 5:30pm Friday the 19th, at The Funeral Chapel.
