Obituary for Eugene Ward "Gene" Weddle

Eugene “Gene” Ward Weddle, 91, of Bloomington, passed away on Wednesday September 5, 2018 at Hearthstone Health Campus with his daughters by his side.

Gene was born September 15, 1926 in Unionville, Indiana and was the son of the late Lon and Vida (Ward) Weddle. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and worked as a Fuel Distributor for Marathon and Mobil Oil and later drove a School Bus. He was a member of Zion’s Hill Baptist Church.

He married Phyllis “Joan” Campbell on June 4, 1948 and they enjoyed 69 years of marriage before her passing on August 3, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his great grandson, Jensen R. Hoffman, son-in-law, P. Kent Hoffman, sisters; Dorothy Sarber, Dollie Robinson, Nellie Groomer, Gertrude Hamilton and infant sister Emma, brothers; Harold, Maurice, Robert, Walter Jack, James, and William Weddle.

Survivors include 2 daughters; Linda J. Deckard (Steven), and Peggy J. Hoffman both of Bloomington, grandchildren; Stacie L. Torline (Mark), Jodie L. Latiolais (Scott) both of Bloomington, Brian K. Hoffman (Tae) of Bedford, IN, and Kyle J. Hoffman (Casey) of Grand Fork, ND and great grandchildren; Jenna M. Torline & Abigail J. Latiolais both of Bloomington and Riley K. Hoffman of Bedford, IN.

Friends and family are invited to a graveside service on Monday September 10, 2018 at 11:00 am at Payne Cemetery. Donnie Campbell will officiate the service and Military Honors will be presented by the Monroe County Veteran’s Honor Guard.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gene’s memory may be given to the charity of your choice.
