Helen was born in Bloomington, on Sunday, September 7th, to Ralph W. Smith and Alma F. (Byers) Smith. She was the second of eight children. Growing up on a farm during the depression, she became a very hard worker helping with inside and outside chores. They were soon married on New Year's Eve, 1946. They were very active church members, sharing their love of music and singing Gospel Hymns with family and friends. Helen carried the love of music and crafts throughout her life, even while living at Hearthstone Assisted Living. She loved helping others whenever she could, including caring for the sick and assisting those in need. Nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren.
