Obituary for Anna Louise Hillenburg

Anna Louise Hillenburg (née Hawkins -b. 1937), died Monday, January 1st, 2018 in Bloomington, Indiana after battling several health issues. Anna was born in Bloomfield, Indiana to Van and Violet Hawkins. She continued to live in Bloomfield with her family, and attended Bloomfield High School. She married Joseph Franklin Hillenburg (1934 - 1991), of Bloomington, with whom she enjoyed traveling.
Anna had been an employee of Sarkes Tarzian Enterprises in Bloomington, where she assembled radioelectronic equipment.
She and her husband, Joseph, later operated several small businesses in South Central Indiana, including grocery stores, a taxi cab company, and rental properties in Bloomington and Patricksburg, Indiana, and in Miami, Florida.
Her varied academic interests included astronomy, economics, sociology, anthropology, and other subjects, and she graduated with a degree in General Studies at Indiana University Bloomington. Anna also liked to provide employment and assistance to some of Bloomington’s homeless community.
Anna is survived by her son, Joseph (Stacy), and her grandchildren Abigail (10), Klara (9), and Benjamin (6), along with her brothers Robert Hawkins and Stanley Hawkins, and her sister Lynda Jane Hawkins. She was preceded in death by her brother Gregory “Richard” Hawkins.
Anna will be interred at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington. Arrangements regarding a celebration of life will be announced on a later date.
