Obituary for Jerry M. Sylvester

Jerry M. Sylvester, 67 of Bloomington passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Born November 15, 1949, he was the son of Orville E. “Cricket” and Vivian M. (Wright) Sylvester.

In high school, Jerry was the first athlete to win State Champion at the newly formed Bloomington High School South. He won his title wrestling in the 112 weight division in 1968. He worked at GE, City of Bloomington, was a Hod Carrier with the Union and his most recent job was at Motor Service.


Jerry loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing especially with his twin brother Larry. He loved to laugh and make people laugh, Jerry was quite the jokester and ladies man. He loved his children and grandchildren. He had a heart of gold and was the type of person that would have given you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

He is survived by his children, Jennifer (Shane) Colwell, Tina Bohall, Jason Bohall, and Megan Sylvester, all of Bloomington. 5 grandchildren, Chad, Caitlyn, Hannah, Garrett and Presley, 4 great-grandchildren. His twin brother Larry (Bonnie) Sylvester, 4 Sisters, Arlene Brummett, Susie (Phillip) Lamb, Nancy Tiller and Mary Lou Shields all of Bloomington, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Sylvester, son Dustin Sims, grandson Cameron Bruner, sisters Jeannie Burnworth and Margie Thompson.

There will be a celebration of life on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the 11th Street Pentecostal Church from 3-6 with a small service starting at 6. A very special thank you to the staff at the IU Health Hospice House for all of their extraordinary care and kindness.
