Obituary for Lulla D. Shermis

Lulla D. Shermis, 82, passed away at Autumn Hills with her husband of 62 years, Sam, at her side. She was born in Maud, Oklahoma, on November 27th, 1934.

Lulla graduated from Fresno State University and finished her formal schooling with an Educational Specialist degree at Purdue University. She was a public school teacher, a guidance counselor at Purdue for many years, and very active in the Jewish community in Lafayette, including serving as president of the Sisterhood. She was also active for several years in the Jewish community of Asheville, North Carolina.

Besides her husband, her three sons, Michael, Joseph, and Daniel, one grandson, Benjamin, her brother, Jim Story and his partner, Jill, and several nephews and nieces, survive her.

She lived a life dedicated to the well being of others, touching many as a wife, mother, guidance counselor, and friend to anyone she met.

Services will be 10:00 am Tuesday June 6, 2017 at Congregation Beth Shalom, 3750 E. Third St. Bloomington, to which all memorial contributions (in lieu of flowers) can be made. Burial will follow the service at the Beth Shalom Gardens at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.
