Obituary for Marjorie Ann Shaw

Marjorie Ann Shaw (nee: Noel), of Saint Charles, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at the age of 91. Loving wife of the late Russell E. Shaw; beloved daughter of the late Russell and Hazel Noel; devoted mother of Robert V. (Nancy) Shaw, Marilyn J. (Joseph) Slavich, infant Ronald G. (Deceased), Russell Eugene Shaw II, Anna M. (William) Schneider; cherished grandmother of Kevin (Lisa) Shaw, Jessica Shaw Scott, Sarah (Brad) Gilliland, John R. (Hannah) Slavich, Joseph M. Slavich, Karis (Nathan) Jones, Rachel (Andrew Thompson) Schneider; treasured great-grandmother of twelve; beloved great-great grandmother of one; dear sister of Shirley Bastin, Ramona (Lloyd) Smith, Rosalie (Joe) Fleener, and Jeanne Baker. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Doris Kent, and Bette Underwood, and her brothers-in-law, Leo Kent, Bob Underwood, Kenny Bastin, and Johnny Baker.
Marjorie loved her family. She cared for them and enjoyed many homemaking tasks such as cooking, sewing, gardening, and food preservation. She enjoyed children, and besides caring for her own, she took in others to watch while their parents worked. For many years, she worked as an office manager for her family’s electrical business. Marjorie and her husband Russell’s faith was central to their life, and they enjoyed serving together at McDoel Baptist Church for well over 35 years. She taught Sunday School, VBS, and participated in Missionary Circles, to name a few. Later in life, they found their church home at Stanford Baptist Church, where they were warmly received.
After her husband’s death, she adjusted to a move to St. Louis to live with her daughter, Marilyn, and husband, Joe. She was anxious to keep in touch with her immediate and extended family and friends through phone conversations and letters. It was difficult to be so far from her hometown, Bloomington, but she enjoyed being with new friends there and enjoyed reading many novels.
Visitation will be on Thursday February 2, 2017 from 4-8 pm at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington.
