James Eugene "Gene" Stogsdill Sr.
James Eugene “Gene” Stogsdill Sr., 95, of Bloomington passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016 at White River Lodge in Bedford.
Born, June 19, 1921 in Bloomington, he was the son of James and Ruth (Walker) Stogsdill.
Gene was an Airman/Ammunition Specialist for the United States Navy serving during WWII.
He was a member of Bricklayer and Allied Craftsman Chapter #3 in Indianapolis, International Bricklayers and Trowel Trades, and the Civilian Conservation Corp.
Survivors include one son, James “Jim” Stogsdill Jr. (Brenda) of Bedford, two grandsons, Craig Stogsdill, and Mark Stogsdill (Amy), two great-grandsons, Colton Stogsdill and Devin Fisher all of Bloomington, and one niece, Donna Stogsdill.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife Martha (Wood) Stogsdill (2003), brothers and sisters, Martha Moler, Anna Lawson, Marian Stogsdill, Henry Stogsdill, Don Stogsdill, and Allen Stogsdill.
Visitation will be 4-8pm Monday, July 25, 2016 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington.
A private family graveside service will be Tuesday at Valhalla Memory Gardens with Mike Pate officiating. The Monroe County Veteran’s Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy will perform military rites.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Monroe County Veteran’s Honor Guard, 2850 S. Brookside Dr. Bloomington, IN 47401.
