John W. ""Big John"" Ward
John W. “Big John” Ward, 62, lifelong resident of Bloomington passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones April 20, 2016.
Born October 9, 1953 in Bloomington, he was the son of Russell and Cleo (Scott) Ward.
John was a 1972 graduate of Bloomington High School. He spent thirty plus years as an auto body technician around Bloomington.
He enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical, family gatherings and making his famous chili. John will most fondly be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and mentor to many.
John married Diana L. (Sterling) Ward in 1974 in Elnora, IN. Together they had four children, Ron Ward, the late JoAnna Ward, LaDonna Coonse (Randy), and John D. Ward (Sara) all of Bloomington, ten grandchildren, Cameron, Isaac, Adam, Katie, Miranda, Devin, John Jr., Caiden, Sammy and Mikala. He is also survived by his mother, Cleo Ward, three brothers, David Ward (Kathy), Alan Ward, and Daniel Ward (Linda), and one sister, Diana Sterling (Don) all of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Ward.
Visitation will be 4-8pm Friday, April 22, 2016 and 12:30-1:30pm Saturday at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington.
Funeral services will be 1:30pm Saturday at The Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Garrison Chapel Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Funeral Chapel.
