Thelma Christy
Thelma Christy, 93, of Bloomington, passed away on Monday April 4, 2016. Thelma was born September 2, 1922 in Monroe County to Charles and Bertha (Grubb) Christy. She was raised by her foster parents George R. and Mable Carey.
Thelma was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Wesleyan Church, loved to cook and feed her neighborhood, and loved helping people in need. Thelma always put others first and would give away anything to people in need even if she was in need herself. God was always first in her life, then family. The family would like to give special thanks to the nursing and activities staff at Golden Living Center and the staff at the Hospice House for all of the loving care they provided to Thelma.
Survivors include her brother, Harold Christy of Bloomington, foster daughter, Pamela Bell and her children, Angela Summers, John Bell and Buddy Bell and their children Olivia Bell and Sophia Bell. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, foster parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Private family burial will take place. A memorial service to celebrate Thelma’s life will be held at Golden Living Center, 155 E. Burks Drive, Bloomington on April 8th, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.
The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard is handling arrangements.
