Obituary for Lisa K. Lewis (Gotwals)

Lisa K. Lewis (Gotwals)
LEWIS, Lisa K (GOTWALS), known to many as Lisa Morrison, profound philanthropist, Rock DJ, Publicist, Florist, Wedding planner, Wife, Mother, and warrior for the arts and interfaith cooperation - died 12:00am Sunday Morning, January 24th, at Indianapolis Methodist Hospital. Daughter of Helen and Ronald Gotwals - Lisa was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on December 30th, 1968, and raised in Bloomington, Indiana, where she resided for most of her years on this earth. Lisa graduated from B.H.S.N in 1987 and attended Franklin College.

Lisa's contribution to the arts, and to the City of Bloomington, began with her debut on local radio when she was only a teenager. In the 90's, as a 20-something single-mother, Lisa dedicated her early career to promoting and supporting artists both local and international, such as the Y Store, Tom Roznowski, and The Swinging Steaks. She was the original host of Over Easy on 92.3 WTTS Radio, host of Roots Diner, WGCL Radio, President and Publicist at Morrison Marketing and Media, and Event Planner and President of I Do Events in Bloomington, Indiana, from 2001 until present.

Lisa's work in philanthropy began in the 90's and continued until her passing. Lisa dedicated countless hours of philanthropy for such organizations as the Middle Way House, Hoosier Hills Food Bank, the Monroe County Animal Shelter, The Indianapolis Festival of Faiths, and perhaps her most notable work was for the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center and His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Since 2003, Lisa donated thousands of hours of her time managing all media, organizing events, and planning fundraising endeavors for Buddhist Centers, causes related to the Dalai Lama and his visits to the Midwest.

Besides Lisa's profound gifts with public relations, philanthropy, events, and public speaking, Lisa was a gifted florist and wedding planner.

Lisa is survived by: her husband, Jeff Lewis, son Jeremy Gotwals, daughter-in-law-to-be Kari Hicks, stepson Jim Lewis and stepdaughter Jessica Lewis, her mother Helen Gotwals, brothers Mike and Brian Gotwals, and her dog Daisy.

A public viewing and memorial will be held on Friday, January 29th from 4-
8PM, at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard at 3000 E. Third Street in Bloomington, IN. Public interfaith funeral services will be held in her honor Saturday, January 30th, at the First Christian Church, 205 East Kirkwood Ave. Bloomington, IN 47408 at 11AM with burial to follow at the Valhalla Memory Gardens.

The services will be officiated by Buddhist Lama,Venerable Arjia Rinpoche, and Christian Minister, Helen Hempfling.

A celebration of life will start at 7PM Saturday evening, January 30th, at The Lodge on Bloomington's Square at 101 East 6th Street. The following Sunday morning, January 31st, prayers will be offered at the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center.

Lisa had the most beautiful smile, voice, and energy that lit up every room she entered while being engaging, compassionate, and kind to all. Her family couldn't be more proud. Lisa will be missed greatly by her family, friends, and loved ones. Bloomington has lost a true independent icon and champion for local music and the arts. She was truly one of a kind and her like shall never come again. God bless Lisa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lisa's family in care of The Funeral Chapel.
