Donald E. Osborne
Donald E. Osborne, 83 of Stanford, Indiana passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Monroe Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.
Born August 18, 1932, he was the son of Jesse L. and Alice M. (Koontz) Osborne.
Survivors include his loving wife Greta (Edwards) Osborne, two sons, Melvin Osborne of Indianapolis, and Kevin Osborne (Angie) of Bloomington, two precious granddaughters whom he loved dearly, Jessica and Jayna Osborne, one sister Imogene Wright (John) of Bloomington. Don is also survived by one brother-in-law, Joe Edwards (Jan) of Brentwood, TN, and one sister-in-law, Karen Koons (Terry) of Stanford, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Earl Osborne, and sister Helen L. Sparks.
Don retired from R.C.A. after 40 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Yancey. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather as well as an avid fisherman who enjoyed the time spent fishing with his sons and friends. He was a loyal baseball fan and always claimed he had three loves in his life; God, family, and the St. Louis Cardinals. Don and Greta were lifelong members of the Stanford Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion and life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He treasured the fun and laughter with his family, around the Sunday dinner table, where he often remarked “This is what it’s all about.”
Visitation will be 4-8 pm on Tuesday January 12, 2016 and Wednesday January 13 from 10-11 am at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington.
Services will be 11:00 am Wednesday January 13, 2016 at The Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Mark Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at Edwards Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given in Don’s memory to the Stanford Baptist Church or Edwards Cemetery.
