John M. "Jack" Barnes
John M. “Jack” Barnes, 79, of Bloomington passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the IU Health Hospice House surrounded by his family.
Born, June 3, 1936 in Spiceland, Indiana, he was the son of William Denton and Gaily Mae (Akers) Barnes.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Nancy L. (Hughes) Barnes and proud father of sons, Bob Barnes (Margaret) and Steve Barnes (Lisa), two step-grandchildren, Laramie Green and Lanae Cage (Ian) all of Bloomington. Jack is also survived by precious great niece Madison Ann Wampler, one brother, Dean Barnes (Rita), three sisters, Doris Craig (Bill), Dorothy Brown (Donnie) all of Bloomington and Sue Borders (Roy) of Lady Lake, FL; and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Junior, Eugene and Wayne Barnes and sisters, Nancy Maryfield, Betty Sylvestri, Maxine Willis, Ruby Weigle and Phyllis Volz.
Jack retired from the Ralph Rogers Group in 1996 after 43 years of service.
He enjoyed his woodworking shop and his garden.
Jack was a loving husband and father who loved to fish and hunt with his sons and spending time with his family and his many treasured friends.
Jack and Nancy attended the Sanders Pentecostal Church in Bloomington.
Visitation will be 3-8pm Sunday, January 10, 2016 and 12:30-1:30pm Monday at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington.
Services will be 1:30pm Monday at The Funeral Chapel with Brothers Joe Nelson, Bruce Kelly, Bob Akers and Rob Akers officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
