Obituary for
Donald W. Hays
Donald W. Hays, 83, of Bloomington, passed away on Wednesday January 6, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family. Don was born March 13, 1932 in Bloomington and was the son of the late Herman and Pansy (Mills) Hays.
Don owned and operated the Gulf Service Stations at 10th and the By-pass and 17th and Rogers for several years. He later worked as a mechanic for Harry Stephens Oldsmobile before going in the ministry. He pastored the Church of God of Prophecy for many years. Don’s retirement was spent as a Wal-Mart Greeter finally retiring a couple of years ago. He started the Bassmasters group in Bloomington and attended Zion Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife Shirley A. Hatley-Hays of Bloomington, 4 children; Donald K. Hays of Spencer, Tonda Stafford (Jim) of Bloomington, Anthony Hays (Jill) of Owensburg and Angela Patterson (Scott) of Bloomington. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, two sisters; Delores Brummett (Don) and Linda Perry both of Bloomington and two step children; Debbie May (Timmy) and Rick Moser both of Bloomington.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sheryl Rice, his first wife, Yvonne Hays and sister, Nancy Carol Hays.
Visitation will be 4-8 pm Friday January 8, 2016 and 10-11 am Saturday January 9, 2016 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington.
Services will be at 11:00 am Saturday at The Funeral Chapel with Pastor Andy Hughes Officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery.
