John Richard Gibbs
John Richard Gibbs, 78, of Bloomington passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born, January 11, 1937 in Muncie Indiana, he was the son of Milford Clayton and Ruth Jessie (Clark) Gibbs.
John was the owner/operator of a 7 Eleven grocery for many years before going to work for R&B Construction. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 136 before retiring in 1994.
John was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending all of his time with his family. Survivors include his three children, Richard Wayne Gibbs (Teresa), Kathy Martin, Phyllis Ann Gibbs all of Bloomington, 4 grandchildren, Richard Gibbs Jr. (Bree), Angela Gibbs-Silvers (Jerry), Stephanie Davis (Kevin) and Justin Martin. 4 great grandchildren, Dayson Silvers, Caden Silvers, Parker Gibbs and Kale Gibbs, sister Eleanor Keith, sister-in-law Dee Gibbs, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Windell (Bud) Gibbs, sister, Virginia (Jennie) Cummings.
Visitation will be from 11:00am until 1:00pm Friday October 30, 2015 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Friday October 30, 2015 at The Funeral Chapel. Entombment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Contributions in John’s name may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
