Obituary for Carolyn Marie Gerhart (Rybowiak)

Carolyn Marie Gerhart, 91, of Bloomington and formerly of Griffith, passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 6, 2015 at the home of her daughter in Bloomington. Carolyn was born August 19, 1924 in East Chicago, Indiana and was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Lottie (Jelenecki) Rybowiak.
Carolyn graduated from Indiana State University and taught First Grade for over30 years for the Lake County School System and St. Mary’s Schools in Griffith. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Parrish in Griffith and most recently St. Paul Catholic Center in Bloomington. She was a Tri Kappa Member for over 30 years and also the Griffith Women’s Club. She was a wonderful caring wife and mother and a very devout, non-judgmental catholic.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law; Barbara and David Lantz of Bloomington, and 3 grandsons; Noah McCollam, Christopher Lantz, and Gabriel Lantz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer A. Gerhart in 1979 and her son James D. Gerhart in 2009.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday October 10, 2015 at St. Paul Catholic Center, 1413 E. 17th Street, Bloomington.
A burial will be held at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL.
