Linda M. Prall, 67, of Bloomington, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the IU Health Hospice House after a brief battle with cancer. Linda was born May 13, 1948 in Bluffton, IN to the late Glen O. and Helen K. (Mattice) Marsh. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1966 and Indiana University in 1970.
After graduating from IU, Linda began a long career in Bloomington of owning and operating many successful businesses. She opened her first Bloomington business, Hour House, with her husband William in 1970 at Atwater and Woodlawn. From that beginning, she went on to run a current five businesses in Bloomington to great success and popularity: Kilroy’s Bar and Grill, Kilroy’s Sports Bar, The Dunnkirk, Smokin’ Jack’s Rib Shack, and KRC Catering.
Linda was an active member of the Bloomington community and maintained a presence in many organizations, including the Bloomington, Ellettsville, and Greater Monroe County Chambers of Commerce and the Bloomington Independent Restaurant Association.
Personally and through her businesses, she donated to numerous charities, and was particularly committed to the American Red Cross. She was a member of the Red Cross Tiffany Circle; a Lifetime Member of the Monroe County Red Cross Advisory Board; and had served as Chairman of the Board of the Monroe County Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was the chapter’s 2014 recipient of the Pat Kingsbury Service Above Self Award. In just the last few years, Linda both contributed and raised over $100,000 for The American Red Cross.
Linda was a lifelong and committed fan of IU sports. A passionate Hoosier, she cheered on numerous IU sports teams and was always glad to welcome fans and alumni back into her business establishments.
Survivors include her husband William F. Prall of Bloomington; three children, Margaret H. “Maggie” Prall, David William Prall, and Elizabeth A. “Liza” Prall, all of Bloomington; eight grandchildren, Tiana Prall, Alexis Prall, Kevin Mimms, Kywin Mimms, Kayla Mimms, Truely Prall, Holden Prall, and Rylie Baker; and two brothers, Jack T. Marsh and Glen O. “Sonny” Marsh.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Kay Marsh.
Linda had numerous friends of all ages. She always had a youthful demeanor, enjoying the interactions with her younger employees. She acted as a mentor and friend to them, guiding many through their college years with her wisdom and advice. Linda remained close friends with a countless number of her former employees, many of whom met their spouses while working for her.
Linda’s family will receive friends on Friday, October 9, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard at 3000 E. Third St., Bloomington, and on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at The Funeral Chapel with a brief Celebration of Life Service at 6:00 p.m.
